Alpha Social Club

Social Club Overview

The Alpha Social Club was formed many years ago.  The group has grown substantially and now has formed its own Committee, whilst still being supported by Alpha.

The Alpha Social Group provides an opportunity for adults of all ages and various abilities across the Autism Spectrum, to meet and enjoy social activities in a friendly group environment.

When Activities Are On

The Club runs activities on the 3rd Monday of the month from approximately 4pm-6pm.

Membership

Membership is free, all you need to do is request a membership form by calling (03) 9885 2777, complete the form and post it back to Alpha Autism Inc, 1939-1941 Malvern Road, East Malvern, Victoria, 3145. You will then be on the mailing list and receive information regarding upcoming activities.

How to Participate

If you are interested in attending any of the activities you can by calling Alpha's Head Office on (03) 9885 2777 or email admin@alpha-autism.org.au.

Cost

Membership in the Alpha Social Club is free, but members are expected to pay their own way to any activities they participate in.

Transport

Members are expected to make their own way to and from the activities. Most activities are chosen for their central location and a reasonable proximity to public transport. 

Selection of Activities

Alpha Social Club activities are suggested by members at a meeting early each calendar year. Activities are selected from the list according to popularity amongst attending members. The activities are then researched, organised, and a calendar of events produced by the Social Club Committee.

Cost:  $29.00 All you can eat buffet, plus bring money for drinks.
Time:  12.00 pm.
Meet:  Restaurant entrance.
Getting There:  From the Flinders Street tram stop, take the Number 75 tram towards Vermont South.  Get off at tram stop 73 - Springvale Road/Burwood Highway.

Picnic Lunch at the Melbourne Botanical Gardens

Cost:  Either bring lunch with you or bring some money to puchase something to take to the gardens for lunch.
Time:  12.00 pm.
Meet:  At the Visitor Centre.
Getting There:  Take a train to Flinders Street Station.  From Swanston Street, heading South (towards the Arts Centre), take any of the following Trams - 3, 5, 8, 16, 64 or 67 - follow this route.  Get off at tram stop 20, the Domain Road Interchange.  Walk towards the Shrine of Remembrance.  Cross Birdwood Avenue and walk towards the Observatory Buildings.  The Visitor Centre is located here and this is the meeting point.

Cost:  $19.00 Concession entry.  $29.00 Adult entry.  You may also need money for rides, show bags and food.
Time:  10.00 am.
Meet:  Southern Cross Station.
Getting There:  Take the train from Southern Cross Station to the Melbourne Show Grounds.

Cost:  $6.75 Concession
Time:  11.00 am meet to purchase tickets and then purchase lunch before the movie.
Meet:  Cinema entrance.
Getting There:  From Flinders Street Station take the Glen Waverley train.  Get off at Syndal Station.  Walk to the bus stop (Syndal Station/Coleman Parade) and take the 737 Bus towards Monash University.  Get off at Pinewood Shopping Centre, Mt Waverley.

Cost:  $19.20 Concession, $24.80 Adult, entry to the Zoo.  You will also need money for travel tickets.
Time:  10.30 am.
Meet:  Flinders Street Station.
Getting There:  Take the train from Flinders Street Station, get on the Upfield or Gowrie Lines and get off at Royal Park Station.

Time:  6.00 pm.
Meet:  Restaurant entrance.
Getting There:  Take the train to Melbourne Central Station.  Get off and walk to the corner of LaTrobe and Elizabeth Streets.  On Elizabeth Street take the number 19, 57 or 59 Tram towards the city.  Get off at tram stop 2 - Collins/Elizabeth Streets.  Walk up Collins Street towards William Street.  Taco Bill is number 412.

Level 1, Shop 35 Star Crescent, Docklands Harbour Town, Melbourne

Cost:  $13.00.
Time:  1.00 pm.
Meet:  Shop entrance - Level 1, Shop 35 Star Crescent, Docklands Harbour Town, Melbourne).
Getting There:  Trams run regularly through the Docklands including the Free City Circle Tram.  Other trams - Number 31 Tram via Collins Street, Numbers 48 & 70 Trams via Flinders Street and Number 86 Tram via Bourke Street.  Trains - Docklands is an easy walk (less than 5 minutes) from the Southern Cross Station.

Queenscliff Day Trip

Cost:  You will need to ask at the ticket box, for the best ticket when catching the V/Line to Geelong, and then taking the regional bus to Queenscliff return.  Allow $15.00 for travel and also bring money for lunch and snacks.
Time:  10.30 am.
Meet:  V/Line ticket counter.
Getting There:  Depart 11.00 am from Southern Cross Station.  Take the train towards Marshall.  Get off at Geelong Station.  Walk to Geelong Railway Station/Railway Terrace (Geelong), and take the Number 75 Bus towards Queenscliff.  It comes at 12.00 pm from Platform Bay 10.  You will arrive at 12.45 am in Queenscliff.
Return:  Depart Queenscliff Post Office/Hesse Street, bus stop at 6.05 pm take the Number 80 Bus towards Geelong.  Get off at Marshall Railway Station/Mashalltown Road (Grovedale) then take the 7.15 pm train towards Southern Cross Station.  Arrive at Southern Cross Station at 8.28 pm.

Getting There:  Take the train to Parliament Station and it's a short walk up Bourke Street to the Spaghetti Tree.  Tram - you can take the 86, 95 or 96 Tram up Bourke Street, getting off at either Exhibition or Spring Streets.
