Alpha Social Club
Social Club Overview
The Alpha Social Club was formed many years ago. The group has grown substantially and now has formed its own Committee, whilst still being supported by Alpha.
The Alpha Social Group provides an opportunity for adults of all ages and various abilities across the Autism Spectrum, to meet and enjoy social activities in a friendly group environment.
When Activities Are On
The Club runs activities on the 3rd Monday of the month from approximately 4pm-6pm.
Membership
Membership is free, all you need to do is request a membership form by calling (03) 9885 2777, complete the form and post it back to Alpha Autism Inc, 1939-1941 Malvern Road, East Malvern, Victoria, 3145. You will then be on the mailing list and receive information regarding upcoming activities.
How to Participate
If you are interested in attending any of the activities you can by calling Alpha's Head Office on (03) 9885 2777 or email admin@alpha-autism.org.au.
Cost
Membership in the Alpha Social Club is free, but members are expected to pay their own way to any activities they participate in.
Transport
Members are expected to make their own way to and from the activities. Most activities are chosen for their central location and a reasonable proximity to public transport.
Selection of Activities
Alpha Social Club activities are suggested by members at a meeting early each calendar year. Activities are selected from the list according to popularity amongst attending members. The activities are then researched, organised, and a calendar of events produced by the Social Club Committee.

Saturday 13th September
Day Trip to Geelong - Meeting at Geelong Train Station (Railway Terrace, Geelong)
(Group will walk and explore Geelong)
- Cost: If going via V/Line train to Geelong cost return is $8.80 Concession; $12.40 Adult. Plus money for lunch/snacks.
- Time: Meeting at Geelong Train Station at 11.00 am. Need to get 10.00 am V/Line train to Geelong departing Southern Cross Station. Arriving in Geelong at 10.54 am. Return trains depart Geelong approximately hourly (please check return times at station when you arrive).
- Meet At: Geelong Train Station (main entrance).
Monday 15th September
Eureka Tower Skydeck (Observation Deck)
- Cost: Adult $16.50; Concession $11.00
- Time: 4.00 pm
- Meet At: Eureka Tower - 7 Riverside Quay, entry is via the Plaza area which is between the Travelodge and the Eureka Building. Melway Map 1D:R4.
GIRLS GROUP ACTIVITY
Saturday 6th September
The Abbotsford Convent - 1 St Heliers Street, Abbotsford
The Abbotsford Convent is set on 6.8 hectares of gardens, there are many historical buildings and a variety of cafes. Come and have a wander about and have lunch with the group.
- Cost: Free to enter the Convent grounds, allow $15.00 to $20.00 for lunch/snacks
- Time: 11.30 am
- Meet At: Outside the main entrance to the Convent
- Getting There: Victoria Park Station on the Epping/Hurstbridge line is the closest railway station, then Buses 200, 201, 205 and 207 run along Johnson Street. Melway Map 44:G5. Please call Kim if you require further details.

Melbourne Zoo - Elliot Avenue, Parkville
- Cost: Adult $23.00; Concession $17.50
- Time: Meet at 11.00 am
- Meet At: As most people will arrive by public transport, please meet just inside the Rail Gate entrance of the Zoo. This is not the main entrance. If you do go through the main entrance, see map attached to the Social Club Newsletter - June 2008.
- Getting There: Car Parking is available or you can take the tram or train. Tram 55 runs from William Street, Monday through Sunday. Trains run from Flinders Street Station on the Upfield or Gowrie lines, Monday through Sunday, stopping at Melbourne Zoo's own Royal Park Station. Melway Map 43:E1.

Early Dinner - Melbourne Bar & Bistro
- Cost: $9.00 all you can eat, plus money for a drink
- Time: 4.00 pm
